 Good PDA and great size, but dire battery!!! March 4, 2010

As with most other reviewers, I think the phone's a very clever piece of kit, the GPS is really useful, the device is tiny and works well. Windows mobile OS isn't as good as others like the Iphone OS and it does occasionally crash and is a little slow, but all things that don't majorly detract from the device.
HTC claim this has a standby battery life of over 280 hours... i.e. 10 days and nights solidly. This is total nonsense. If you don't use teh phone and leave it on standby, it will comfortable go from 6am until midnight. However, using it for a 30 to 40 minute call will ensure that teh battery dies early evening and GPS usage drains the battery far faster, meaning I rarely end up using GPS when I'm out and away from a charger. An hours call in teh morning will kill the battery for the rest of the day. I would give this 4 or 5 stars if it wasn't for the battery life, but it makes the phone almost unusable for the GPS and if you expect more than 20 minutes of web browsing or chat in a day, then you'll need to carry a spare battery.
As an aside, I did end up purchasing a double capacity battery from Ebay which makes the unit a lot bulkier but if I expect to have to use the phone during the day I now take this battery and it becomes a lot more usable.
I like the device, but am having to replace it for something that has a res=asonable battery life and wont be buying HTC again in a hurry after this experience.

I bought this phone from Amazon a week ago. I moved out of a Sony Ericsson Experia X1 into this phone and from one excellent phone to another this Diamond 2 is awesome.
This one has the later WM 6.5 on board and the "sense" UI is very intuitive and finger friendly. The screen is vibrant and a good size for web surfing.
Battery life is not as bad as you may have read elsewhere. I get around 3 days from mine and that includes a fair amount of calls, net surfing etc.
Quality and feel in the hand is very good, it looks quite the gadget...!
A big plus for me is the SAP bluetooth profile which allows the sim to be electronically cloned by the hands free system in my company car. Not all mobiles have this yet, it allows for my Vauxhall Insignia to clone my sim and then puts the phone in standby while the car takes over. Brilliant...!

I have one of these as a company phone - so hopefully this review is objective since I haven't sunk over 300 quid into one of these things.
So - plus points:
- You can get your e-mail on the move.
- Nice Hi-Res screen.
- The Weather App is nice.
Minus points
- Battery life is terrible. Feels like I've been thrown back 10 years, you end up walking round with a spare battery, car charger & USB cable everywhere you go.
- As soon as it loses e-mail connectivity it assumes the password is the problem & you have to keep typing it in again & again & again, which also helpfully appears over the top of other applications you may be using.
- The Telephone functionality is terrible, totally non-intuitive & if it can't make a call because of bad reception you then have to tap a tiny OK button which you can't do with your finger, so you have to get the stylus out, which is really awkward & annoying.
- Two contacts programs?? both very slightly different, neither have all the features you want, though the HTC one did a good job of destroying the contacts on my laptop via Active Sync.
- The user interface is very difficult to customise - you are just stuck with it unless you want to start hacking about in Windows & the registry.
- Becomes unresponsive at times, you have no idea if it just didn't register you pressing a button or if it is just thrashing away doing something...
- Sat Nav is good on it until you lose e-mail connectivity (see above) & the phone then locks & you've lost your Sat Nav (unless you wanna try breaking the law & unlocking the phone while driving)
Basically it feels half finished & not tested in the real world, the touch flo thing isn't great & just feels like a weak attempt at being an iPhone. Maybe if HTC concentrated on producing a useful, functional phone/pda rather than trying to be an iPhone it would be a better product.
Not impressed - its trying to do way too many things & doing them all badly.

Bought this as a more modern up to date replacement for an existing Windows Mobile smartphone (personal & business use). Only been using it for a few days and up until now i'm very happy with it. HTC's Touch Flo system enhances the Windows Mobile Pro 6.1 OS. Added bonus is HTC currently offer a free phone firmware download upgrade to WM6.5 Pro. Already done this and now even better. All higher level menus are easily accessible via finger touch (HTC Touch Flo overlay) whilst some of the more advanced 'buried' menus rely on the WM6.5 system and are much smaller and fiddly to access without the included stylus if you have Walls bangers fingers. No memory expansion card included and you will need one with the phones modest on-board capacity. Battery life seems pretty good up to now, although i'm not a heavy user and most business stuff I do via pc synchronisation (which keeps it charged). Phone is quite thin and slippy in the hand so a case or cover is also a must to protect your investment from the inevitable dings. The sync/charging cable is one and same (and isnt a standard USB/miniUSB), so you may also need to get a second to avoid forgetting it and being caught short. Just make sure its compatible. Available from the usual online outlets.
Never bothered with the camera or music player - I use a proper camera for taking photos and an mp3 player to listen to music! Comms wise, its fully loaded (wireless, Bluetooth, 3G, etc). Google maps onboard is a nice feature, but requires internet access. Works via the phones built in GPS.
Those familiar with Windows Mobile OS will likely know what they are getting. As for the phone itself - can't fault it yet. Worth checking out the pro reviews on the likes of CNET and TracyandMatt to get the full lowdown if you're thinking of investing.
As with most other higher end touch phones, keeps getting likened to the iPhone as a viable alternative. I personally disagree with this. Difficult to fault it yet and just enjoying getting to grips with it. Not disappointed.

I've been looking at this mobile for a few months now, checking the spec and reviews: all the indications were that it's top of the class and this was confirmed when I got it and started using it. My priorities are phone/email/internet and GPS: for these uses it's perfect. I've been using it for a couple of months and it's excellent in those fields. In GPS especially (using CoPilot 8) it rivals my Garmin 215WT. The only possible shortcoming for my use is that the battery tends to run down a bit more rapidly than my other mobiles. I highly recommend this phone and the Amazon price and delivery service were, as usual, first-rate.
