1 out of 5 stars The worst thing I have ever bought   April 14, 2009

I don't care how much this thing costs, this is the worst gadget that I have ever bought ... and I am a fan of HP ... I have their laptops and PDAs so had reasonably high expectations.

The functionality and interface is soooooooo far behind even first generation TomTom ... and the software is clearly fragile too.

Last week I had 3 trips of over 100 miles ... on each trip the travel companion decided to reboot ... taking 3 to 4 minutes to come back to life. OK if you are on the motorway, a different story if you are in the middle of an unfamiliar city.

The sound is poor, so I can't really see what the point of a music player , the bluetooth interface is useless unless you are stationary with the engine off ... again what is the point.

On the plus side, and this is where I give it a star ... the screen is excellent.

1 out of 5 stars Rubbish!!!!!!   February 4, 2009

The HP travel companion is a little complicated and in busy traffic it is difficult to navigate through the menus, I have other GPS's wich are much better. The media functions are rubbish, movies play better on my phone. The CashBask offer was a mith and the money never arrived. Also the camera update worked the first time, but has never worked since.

My conclusion is; save your money and shop elsewhere there are much better products on the market, My LG renoir phone does everything the HP does plus much more.

Fantastic value for less than a ton. Not the most user-friendly piece of kit though so you need time to practice on it and the volume of the instructions is too low for use in a noisy vehicle or for hearing impaired.
I haven't investigated the earphone option.
