Superb Light, Fast Pocket PC (The Best?) May 25, 2009 Ms. P. Byrne (UK) WOW!! Amazing device - I had an ipaq 3950 when it first came out, and it was great. This is smaller, lighter and faster. In a word - PERFECT. Even today (in 2009) this is an amazing machine.
I would heartily recommend it to anyone.
A brilliant value machine and the best PDA I have ever used September 6, 2004 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I have just spent a weekend with this machine and have emptied the battery of this baby 3 times. The games that it ships with are simple, easy to use and hideously addictive. The screen is great. The whole machine is light, and extremely portable without being "too light" (where some machines feel badly made!). The Windows XP look makes many users feel straight at home. The transcriber software (which tries to read your hand writing and convert it into text) is very accurate and easy to use, pocket word excel etc are very familiar looking and you instantly feel at home using it. I have been weighing up the Tungsten T3, and even though this ipaq is almost half the price in some shops I'd prefer this IPAQ every time! If you want Wifi and a faster processor if you are playing games etc on this machine I would recommend the upgrade to the HP 4150 (the 4155 is the same machine in case you have become confused as I did at first too). But if you don't have a wifi network at home or at your office then I really don't think you'll find a machine to beat this one! Enjoy!
Amazing value for money June 7, 2004 S. Greig (Guildford, UK) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
I bought the iPaq 1940 as an upgrade from my 4-year-old Palm V. I am extremely impressed. The screen is very bright and the colours are very crisp. The unit itself is well built (not quite as solid feeling as the Palm was) and fairly light. It runs Pocket PC2003 which works very well - this is not a review of the software however so I won't dwell here too.For the price, I cannot recommend any other PDA. This is a very good package and very reasonably priced. I would recommend an SD expansion card as its handy to have the extra storage. I use mine for holiday photos, the iPaq is excellent to be used as a portable photo album to show friends photos from my Digital camera. Pros: - Light - Cool looking - Bluetooth - Pocket PC2003 has excellent application availability Cons: - Battery life is fairly short - No cradle included in the box - No cover included in the box Basically, if you are looking for a fully featured, reasonably priced PDA. Buy this one. You will not regret it.
Very Impressed May 23, 2004 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
This is my first PDA, and it had a lot to live up to as I purchased it as a cheap laptop alternative. The CPU compares favourably to the 400Mhz Intel models according to benchmarks, and I've noticed no delays in any circumstances - media playback, games and applications all race along without fuss, and aside from OS compatibility issues (some software doesn't like the latest WinCE version, though updates are being made available) I've had no problems with crashing or glitches. Sound quality is excellent through headphones, and acceptable through the built-in speaker. Video quality is excellent, despite numerous reviews complaining of discolouration when the device is viewed from an angle. While true, the yellowish hue isn't apparent when the screen is viewed straight-on, and unless you're using your ipaq for high-end graphics applications, it's simply not an issue. My screen does have one dead pixel which developed after purchase.Build quality is good, though plastic-cased, the device has an expensive, solid feel to it. The hardware buttons provide nice clicky feedback and the 'Record' button is recessed to prevent accidental use. Battery life is around 3 to 3.5 hours for me, which is slightly disappointing after hearing from multiple sources that it was rated for 8 hours. Bluetooth support rounds off this superb package, expanding the use to include mobile internet access if you already have wireless internet access (for me, this means a Zoom wireless modem from Expansys though some mobile phones can provide a truly wireless internet solution via bluetooth)
New Found Freedom March 18, 2004 Mr. Terry Molloy 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
After years of weighing myself down with a Filofax and having the drudgery of transferring everything to Outlook when I returned to my computer or printing out pages to put in my diary.. I took the plunge and ordered the HP iPAQ 1940 handheld PC.WOW.. what a new lease of freedom I have.. it syncs with the computer.. uploads and downloads any changes and I can work with it away from home safe that all will be updated on my return. I have had it just a few weeks and am still trying out the features.. dipping my toe further and further into what it can do.. and it is a delight to use, the handwriting recognition is excellent (considering the normal illegibility of my scrawl). I have it in a Chairman's Black case which protects it brilliantly. The screen is superb... clear and colourful and with a storage card I can save all sorts of stuff to take with me if I am away from home. If you are thinking of getting a handheld to keep you current with your contacts, Diary, finances (I have pocket Quicken on it too), emails or web favourites... get this one!!! The only 'der' moment was in having to upgrade my version of Outlook (having a rather old and soon to be replaced Windows 98 home computer) to Outlook XP, but the upgrade is on the installation disc and installation is as easy as could be! Wish I had bought one ages ago!!
