Satisfied of UK March 10, 2010 John on the Coast (Devon, UK) I had a more complicated iPAQ before with GPS and Mobile Phone. Just wanted a normal PDA this time and this does the job well with a few software adds-ons such a those from DeveloperOne and a couple of extra games (some free points for these from HP). I'm a happy bunny. I have used both the bluetooth and the Wi_fi successfully, but mostly keep them off for security purpose. I use an extra SD memory for additional programs and picture storage etc. No problems with this and rather easier to handle than on previous iPAQ.
Fantastic, reliable bit of kit! February 12, 2010 Chris Hughes (Cheltenham, United Kingdom) I have bought 3 of the iPAQ 114 Pocket PC's now! Using them as handheld data entry devices and they are very reliable, robust (with an addon case I bought) and have great battery power.
I think they are great value for money, but for my use (data entry via web browsing) I can't really talk of the huge benefits of the software that comes with it! Personally, I would never want to edit a spreadsheet or word document via any device, but having also used one previously for email I can see how come some people do.
I have never had one crash or lock up and bootup time (after changing to a spare battery, etc) is extremely quick. As usual, delivered next day by Amazon in good packaging. Recommended!
A big disappointment February 4, 2010 Michael Scargill (UK) Like many others I have had major battery problems with this iPAQ. When the battery is functioning as it should do, it runs out of charge far too quickly, rendering it a merely "temporary mobile" device - if used for any length of time while not being charged it will run critically low and then die on you.
The other battery problem is the failure of the batteries themselves. My first battery (new with the iPAQ) lasted barely 11 months before suddenly, without any warning signs, just refusing to charge ever again and my second (a replacement from HP) has lasted only nine months.
Another major bug bear with it is it's supposed ability to piggy-back on your mobile phone (where your service provider/contract allows this) to access the internet. Sometimes it will do this but far too often it fails and when it fails you then get treated to an interminable succession of extremely irritating messages while it constantly re-tries to reconnect. The only way to stop this - and the constant onslaught of these messages prevents you from doing any thing else with the iPAQ in the meantime - is to reboot it!
If it had a decent battery solution and none of the phone-proxy issues mentioned above, it would be just about worth considering as a PDA for use separately from a sophisticated smart phone but with these failings it just isn't really worth considering (unless you are in search of a major source of irritation!).
Good Quality Pocket PC. December 18, 2009 Mr. S. Newbury (London, England) This is a well thought out design making it a pleasure to use. I've never had one of these before but glad I went ahead and bought it as I use it all the time. It's slim, attractive and easy to navigate with the only negative I can find is that you have to charge regularly otherwise a superb product.
A good PDA let down by poor manufacture October 2, 2009 Dr G (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have used daily this PDA for over 18 months. It is well designed and reasonably intuitive to use. Connecting to wireless networks is straight foreword, as is setting up connections to Microsoft Exchange, email etc.. However, it failed suddenly, apparently due to a failure in the circuit which charges the battery. I have found a number of comments on web forums where users have had the same problem with this model. This is not an easy repair and so unfortunately the unit is now useless. Overall, the design and functionality is good, but it seems HP have compromised on the quality of components.
