Very poor battery May 20, 2010 London amazon buyer (London) This phone suffers from a a very low battery - I dont use bluetooth, have it on GSM and use email and it still has to be charged twice a day. It is very annoying - I have a 3G phone that I cannot use on 3G or the battery will run out too quickly. I have tried all the battery saving tricks and I make sure to shut off all unused programmes but still has a really short life span.
There are also some irritating problems with the way the HTC touch flo overlay works with windows mobile. The home screen has a calendar shortcut but when you have an appointment the shortcut is to that appointment. You cannot then navigate to the calendar.
There are some nice features that the phone has like the way you can flick the screen to scroll through text messages. The keyboard is good.
I considered buying an i-phone instead of this phone or a palm-pre and I think I made the wrong choice.
Great hardware, limited by Windows Mobile May 18, 2010 Hemphill HTC is an absolute beauty of a smartphone that is easy to use, stylish, and stable. the only problem is with battery life which we found to be a little below par. If you are a heavy user of features like GPS, or Wi-Fi or indeed want to spend a lot of time listening to music via your phone you may find you need to charge the HTC daily.
A few rough edges May 16, 2010 Brian J (London) This replaced an IPAQ 6915 running Windows Mobile 5. I was hoping that it would be more reliable than the IPAQ but in the 6 weeks I have been using it I have had the following reliability issues, a number of which mean that I couldn't be contacted:
1) Twice the phone connection has switched itself off, i.e. it wouldn't take or make calls. I only became aware of this when I checked the phone and was unaware that no one could ring me.
2) Twice the phone had crashed and I was unable to switch the phone on. I had to take the back off and perform a soft reset to start it. Again for the perdio since it had crashed no one could ring me.
3) Once the phone crashed whilst displaying the home screen. Again I had to perform a soft reset.
4) One afternoon the GPS refused top register a location and neither Google Maps nor Co-pilot could provide a route. This continued despite soft resets.
My phone came with factory loaded Windows Mobile 6.5. However the user manual is for 6.1. I tried to find out how to set the X icon to close programs rather than leaving them running, an issue which is claimed to lead to crashes. It was only after a stream of emails between HTC and myself, during which I was being given incorrect advice, that they eventually realised that this feature had been removed from the latest Touch Pro 2 version of Windows Mobile 6.5 despite it being available in the 6.5 upgrade they issued for 6.1 phones and it being available on other HTC 6.5 phones.
I would like to feel confident that if I have a phone on me that, subject to there being a signal, I can be contacted. So far I don't have that confidence with the Touch Pro 2.
The HTC user interface that has been overlaid onto Windows Mobile has inconsistencies and doesn't cover the core features. The Calendar feature doesn't use the status part of the appointment. The user interface does't extend to tasks or contacts. Some screens have a X icon but you need to press BACK to move back a screen, other screens don't have an X icon. One one screen (can't remember which) the only way I could find to get out of it was to press the call hangup key.
Great phone for messagining March 18, 2010 EVJ (London, UK) Great phone just because of keyboard and 16:9 (800x480) screen but still can't play DivX/XviD rip smoothly with its screen resolution :).
Just FYI: I bought mine from this link and I've got T-Mobile USA version with dark keyboard and black keys which looks very good but a little bit strange since I live in UK and used UK shop recommended by HTC UK site.
iPhone killer? Not sure, but it goes toe to toe. March 9, 2010 The TP2 is a bit thicker than the iPhone, a bit heavier, but not quite as broad, but it does have the really slick slide out keyboard (I've got big fingers and it is easy to use).
The Windows 6.5 interface will be familiar to most users, and works smoothly, although having installed the SPB interface now it's more fun to play with (although SPB does crash occasionally). The camera / video camera function is adequate for taking candid shots (if I want quality I'll use a camera or a video camera, not a phone).
Ultimately this phone is a business oriented phone, but it has enough applications and gadgets to keep anyone busy. One advantage for me in particular is the ability to install MS Reader, meaning I can carry a library in my pocket. I still haven't found a flash based .lit file reader, so it beats the iPhone on that point. Overall, if you don't want to be one of the herd this is a good contender, and sliding out the keyboard, bending up the screen and putting it on your desk is guaranteed to get some attention, even from iPhone users. (FYI, I gave it 4 stars, but I wouldn't give the iPhone 5 stars either).
